After several delays, Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film ‘Emergency’ is finally scheduled to hit theaters on September 6, 2024, marking a significant moment for Indian cinema and political narratives.
Initially postponed due to Kangana’s involvement in the Lok Sabha 2024 election campaign, the actress and filmmaker took to Instagram to share the news of the film’s release. Accompanying the announcement was a powerful new poster that captures the essence of the film’s theme.
Drawing inspiration from William Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’, Kangana Ranaut described ‘Emergency’ as a poignant exploration of the consequences of unbridled ambition within the backdrop of Indian democracy. She underscored the historical significance of the Emergency period, which was declared in 1975 by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, portrayed by Kangana in the film.
In her Instagram post, Kangana wrote, “Announcing #KanganaRanaut’s #Emergency In Cinemas on September 6, 2024. Witness the explosive saga of the most controversial episode in the history of Indian democracy.”
The film promises to delve into the tumultuous events and societal impacts during the 21-month-long Emergency, a period marked by stringent censorship, mass arrests, and political unrest.
Alongside Kangana Ranaut, ‘Emergency’ features a stellar cast including Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, and the late Satish Kaushik, among others.
Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, the film’s music is composed by Sanchit Balhara, with screenplay and dialogue by Ritesh Shah.
